Sheffield flooding

Staggering scenes of flooding in the city of Sheffield, where two people are now known to have died. The body of one person was found a quarter-mile downstream from where a 13-year old had gone missing earlier in the day. A man of 68 drowned when he got swept away after getting out of his car. As of the latest, 900 people will be spending the night in their offices, as they are surrounded by metre(s) deep torrents of water, flowing at very fast speeds. The footage on TV was unbelieveable.

  7. It would seem more and more areas are sucumbing to floods each year Guido...this is so shocking to watch and see.  We live way at the top of a hill and yet one year we had such severe weather our cellars were flooded.  It was amazing watching the heavy sewer manhole covers being lifted like frisbees off the middle of the road and the fountaining water gushing out.  It must have been scarier in the lowere lying areas of our village at the time.  Much like the feelings running through the folks in the flooded areas today.  I suppose its because the land gets too dry in all this good weather we are experincing each year that the water table cannot accept it.   Shape of things to come? ???   I wonder...    Jeanie

  9. I read in Donna's blog that her journalist friend Ste resides here in Sheffield and she has not heard from him.  Sounds like a frightening mess, especially the cracks in the dam.  I hope they can think of something to do to strengthen the dam.  I know what it is like to be living down below a dam that is threatening to break. FRIGHTENING.  Gerry
