Friday notes

Brilliantly sunny morning, not a cloud in the sky and pleasantly warm - 18C already. Seems summer has suddenly arrived. The Black Prince cruiseliner is in port this morning, and its passengers are touring the island. In better weather than Astor's, a week and a half ago.

A militant Islamist group has released a video of Alan Johnston, the BBC reporter who was abducted 12 weeks ago in Gaza. You can see it here. A petition on the BBC website, calling for Mr Johnston's immediate release, has been signed by 130,000 people.

The Atlantic hurricane season has started today, with as yet no hurricanes in the offing. Tropical depression Barbara is likely to make landfall in southern Mexico over the weekend, but with no more than galeforce winds.
As I've said before, any tropical system which threatens land will get a mention on this blog, with the request to relay the information to anyone who may not be aware of the imminent danger. I continue to be concerned about the lack of information on hurricanes in certain parts of the USA.

  1. I wonder if those Islamist groups always love it when they get a reporter from the free world?  They know those reporters are there to tell what's going on and I'm sure terriorists don't want the story told.  I pray this dear man is released and returned safely to his family.  Linda in WA
