So Barry is off the charts as a tropical system - but if you live up the east coast of the States please beware of those gales that'll come rushing your way. Monitor the NWS bulletins, I strongly advise.
I am not a trained meteorologist, although I am a fairly well informed if self-taught amateur hurricane hunter. Reading some of the feedback, I get the impression that nobody really bothers to follow the output of the National Hurricane Center. And by 'nobody' I mean weather forecasters in local radio and TV in the States. If you look at the bulletins yourself, you can quickly get lost in amongst the jargon. However, even the public advisories (issued when a cyclone threatens land) appear to be ignored.
I am once again deeply concerned for the 2007 hurricane season. If a major hurricane is going to hit mainland USA this summer (I hope it doesn't, but there is no telling), I fear the worst.
