Tropical cyclone Gonu has weakened rapidly over the past 24 hours; it is now having winds of 90 knots, instead of the 140 knots of last night. The cyclone will pass close to the city of Musqat, with force 11 winds, in 24 hours' time. Extremely dry air from the Arabian peninsula, much cooler seawater and shallower depths have all taken their toll. Gonu will dissipate before it can enter the Persian Gulf proper at the Straits of Hormuz.

What weakened it more, passing through a city or the air and sea water temps. It will actually dissolve before reaching the Straights? Amazing things, hurricanes, just incredible. Thanks Guido, I learn so much from these posts. Fascinating and beautiful. xo CATHY
