Glasgow Attack

One of the people who drove the Cherokee Jeep into the revolving doors of Glasgow Airport's Terminal One was a hospital doctor, originally from Lebanon. Another suspect, detained on the M6 motorway in Cheshire, was also a doctor. Sends you wondering, doesn't it, how someone who has sworn an oath to heal can turn into a potential mass murderer. Fairly simple.

As I wrote in an entry over the weekend, the extremists behind the recent spate of incidents across the world are believers in a warped version of Islam, that the majority of the faithful will have nothing to do with. It smacks of brainwashing - one former adherent was on BBC News 24 this morning, stating that it had taken him 6 years to decontaminate his mind of the noxious teachings of the Islamists.

The other thing to bear in mind is that there may be thousands of people about, trained into the tactics deployed in London and Glasgow, waiting for the call. When it comes, they head off on their mission, the hatred stirred up to the requisite level by their masters. These so-called sleeper cells consist of people who would be below the radar of the security services - they have no previous record of involvement in extremism. Having said that, it was reported this morning that the police were within minutes of being on the trail of those involved in the Glasgow attack. The role of the people arrested around Stoke-on-Trent remains unclear.

None of those allegedly involved in the attacks of the last few days were of British origin. I mentioned Lebanon; Iran has also come to the fore. I should immediately add that this does not imply government involvement of those countries, although my opinion of the Iranian leadership is on record on this blog.

A statement will be made to Parliament in London by the Home Secretary at 3.30pm this afternoon. It will be carried live on BBC News 24, which can be accessed from the BBC News website for those not on digital TV or outside the UK.

  1. A frightening thought that we can no longer even trust "our" doctors.  What an awful world we live in today.
