Today, a crew of not just ordinarily fit lifeboat men set forth from North Kessock, just outside Inverness, for a triathlon of mammoth proportions. They are cycling 170 miles down to Milngavie, 10 miles north of Glasgow. Then, they'll walk 110 miles to Fort William along the West Highland Way, and will close the circuit by kayaking up the Caledonian Canal, another 70 miles. The aim is to raise £5,000 [$10,000] for the Lifeboats. All this within 48 hours.
This is the same crowd that carried a full-size replica of a lifeboat along the course of the Inverness Half-Marathon TWICE last year.

The RNLI is a wonderful organisation. God bless them.
ReplyDeleteThis is a phenomenal feat! It was bad enough driving along this route let alone cycling, walking and kayaking it in two days! I wish them all the best. Jeanie
ReplyDeleteMakes me tired just hearing about it. I think I'll go take a nap....LOL Wow, some people really push their bodies to the limit. Linda in Washington state
ReplyDeleteIncredible fitness! I have never heard of this triathlon. I wonder if the climate is mild this time of year for them, or will they encounter cold and storms? I hope they raise the funds they need for the lifeboats... these guys have focus, vision, and determination ... not to mention physical and mental endurance. Would love for you to let us know how it ends... they'll probably raise far more than the $10,000 (sorry, I looked for that pound symbol and I don't have it on my keyboard)!! I never noticed that ... I suppose there is a way to access it, but I don't know what it is, Guido. My apologies. American ignorance shows up again <grin> ! bea
