We have another cruiseliner in port today, and the Internet gives me all the information. The cruiseliner is called the Insignia. She can carry 684 passengers, who are being tended to by 400 crew. She is 594 long (594 what? feet, presumably) can do 18 (what? knots, presumably) and was launched on 22/06/1905. No, she doesn't look 101 years old. I've left a message on the site about the year of launch. She sailed from Reykjavik, Iceland, on 4 July after a two-day visit there. Before reaching there, she had called in at Lerwick (Shetland), Torshavn (Faeroes) and will be carrying on to Belfast and Dublin after leaving Stornoway this evening. Her next cruise will take her into the Baltic after visits to Zeebrugge (Belgium) and IJmuiden (Amsterdam), Holland. After a few weeks bobbing in the Baltic, the Insignia is scheduled to head for the Mediterranean for late summer and early Autumn. Her late autumn sail will take her to South America, which is where she will spend the southern hemisphere summer. The itinerary information was supplied by www.cruisecal.com, the other information from the relevant cruise company - as a rule I do not link to commercial sites.
Passengers who come ashore here are usually taken all over the island to visit the sights, such as the Callanish Stones, the Carloway Broch and the black house museums at Arnol and Garenin.
I'd be bored silly on a cruiseliner.
LOL on the typing errors on the website. I wonder what that editor was drinking in his morning coffee??
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cruiseliner. I've never been on one. I don't know if I'd be bored or not.
Have a good day.

The errors on the website are actually the result of formatting errors, and Y2K incompatibility. Putting in 22/06/05 can result in 1905 as well as 2005. Not adding units after a physical description such as speed or dimensions leads to confusion and leaves an unfavourable impression.
ReplyDeletegood entry Guido! great job!

Not actually sure if I'd be bored or not ,would have to check it out first ,!!.....Jan xx
ReplyDeleteI'd be bored on a cruise too, just the thought of being stuck on a ship for weeks without being able to get off when I liked would drive me mad! Then I always seem to attract weirdo's. I just know they'd seek me out on a cruise and I'd end up sitting in my cabin all day hiding from them!! Jeannette xx
