Thursday notes

Brilliant sunrise an hour ago, and it's about 4C outside, as predicted yesterday. The weather radar shows a rash of snowshowers moving out of the North Sea into eastern Scotland, but the mountains on the mainland should keep them away from the islands, where I am.

The containervessel LT Cortesia, which ran aground in the Dover Straits yesterday, has refloated on the high tide overnight, with the aid of three tugs. The ship struck the Varne Bank early yesterday, and this morning's tide was its best chance for refloating. The ship is thought to be undamaged, but is currently anchored off the Kent coast for investigations.

  4. No visible sun rise here this morning.  Too many rain clouds.   At least the temperature is up a little, woke up to 42 degrees instead of 32 degrees or less. It's almost "balmy."   Linda in WA
