Alerts

I only had 18 emails this morning? Normally, those across the pond put anything up to 40 to 70 alerts in my Inbox overnight, but I guess that Thanksgiving and Black Friday (can someone fill me in why it is called Black Friday?) left everybody knackered. Well, good morning America, good afternoon UK and good evening Australia!

  4. I think it's called Black Friday because of all of the shoppers.  All the stores are now "in the black" from all of the profits rather than being "in the red."
Supposed to be sunny here today...but cooler in the 60's.  Supposed to RAIN tomorrow.  40% chance!!  I don't believe it.  Usually we don't see a drop unless it's 80% chance or higher.
    Have a good day.

  5. Pam is right. All the stores put on big sales on Friday after Thanksgiving. They supposedly cut down on their profits and go in the whole. Therefore they are in the black rather than making a big profit and are in the red. I think they still make a big profit anyway, why have a big sale if not. Helen

  6. Pam is right...however the stores are very tricky.  First of all these super low prices are from like 5am-10am.  And they might have a giant screen TV on sale for $100 but most of the time there are only 10 of these in each store (where it's a chain store like Wal Mart, Best Buys, etc).  So what you have is people camped out all night and then when the doors open there's a mad dash for those 10 giant screen TV's.  It's totally crazy but of course those who don't get the "big bargains" on Black Friday spend their money on other things.  So what you have is long lines at the check outs, shopping carts full and overflowing and at the end of this madness there are alot of grumpy people with sore feet (from getting stepped on) but on the other hand they are happy to have gotten all their Christmas shopping done in just a few hours.  And the retailers are happy when their cash registers keep ringing up those sales. It's something I've never done.  I get up at 4:45a to go to work, but I would never in a million years get up at that hour to go shopping.  I went this last Friday but not until about 2:30pm..and got a $180.00 electric blanket for my son's gift for just under $58.00.  There's a good example of a Black Friday discount.  Linda in Washington state
