Female Circumcision

This is not for those easily upset.

In certain countries, it is a common custom to 'surgically' remove the clitoris from young girls. It is said to prevent promiscuous behaviour. Unlike male circumcision, which can benefit boys in terms of hygiene problems, female circumcision serves no purpose and is often referred to as female mutilation. Moves are now afoot to outlaw the practice. Read more in this story from BBC News.

  4. I heard of this years ago.  It's still going on??  They don't even do it in the most sterile of conditions, either.  It IS mutilation if you ask me!
Years ago I read some information on it.  It was so barbaric.  Made me sick.

  6. Yah know the "jerk" status for men and women, in my opinion is about 50/50 these days in America.....really I favor no gender unless its about another country...historically.....MEN WIN BY A LANDSLIDE....When I read articles like this....I really wonder how come women havent united...men against women....no war like that in our history.....those countries need one....-Raven

  7. I can remember watching a news program about this over 20 years ago.  It should be a thing of the past by now, but apprently it is not.  I believe that even in countries where it is supposedly outlawed it still goes on secretly.  A few years ago there was a lady in the U.S. fighting to keep from having to hand her daughter over to the daughter's father who lived in an African village where this still went on.  The mother knew that the father would have this done to their daughter.  The problem was that the mother was here illegally.  I think she was given a status (can't think what it's called at the moment) to keep her and the daughter here.  I certainly hope so, anyway.
