Delivery charges

Here in the islands, we are charged extra for delivering items just because we live in an island. Fair enough for large things (more than 25 kg / 55 lb in weight), but not so for anything lighter than that.

The Royal Mail will carry items up to 25 kg at a flat rate, related to weight and dimensions, irrespective of destination. Why companies have to charge us through the nose, or refuse to deliver in these islands is beyond me.

Five Members of Parliament are currently raising this problem, with a view of hopefully putting a stop to it. It's ridiculous.

  1. We are all paying more for the mail due to their changes that now include size as well as weight.  We took all our Christmas cards to the P.O. so make sure that nobody we sent to had to pay extra.  However, we have had two cards in with insufficient postage.  They wanted to charge us £1.23 for each of them, the 23p being the excess due and the £1 for handling charge. We told the P.O. they could keep them. We had no intention of paying such scandalous charges.

  4. Dear Guido
how preposterous! It's awful! Can you get a better rate  from UPS or a private company who ships?Does the situation improve if you've no rush?
