This morning, at 11.00, two minutes' silence was observed across the United Kingdom in memory of those that fell in World War I and all armed conflicts since. A formal ceremony of Remembrance will be held at Whitehall in central London at 11 am tomorrow, and at War Memorials across the country.
One of the ceremonies, highlighted on BBC TV this morning, took place at Thiepval in northern France, where the Battle of the Somme took place 90 years ago, in 1916. This claimed casualties at the rate of 50,000 a day. The stark memorial there commemorates the 72,000 combatants who died there, but have no known grave.

The figures make your mind reel don't they Guido. Yes, we observed the two minutes silence. I have done my own Remembrance posting today. God rest them all.

Quite sobering figures. My dad was a Desert Rat in North Africa in the war but didn't like to talk about it, it must have been horrific to live through, bless them all. I observed the two minute silence but I'm afraid Nina and Katinka didn't, they ran around making noises throughout it! Jeannette xx
