Local Statement Tropical Storm CHRIS - Puerto Rico

The National Hurricane Center has issued a local hurricane statement for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Detailed information for residents and visitors to these and surrounding areas can be obtained from http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/WTCA82-TJSJ.shtml.

This is a tropical storm, not a hurricane,  with winds up to 35 mph extending 35 miles from the centre of the cyclone. The main danger is heavy rainfall (3 to 5 inches, possibly 8 inches inland).

Residents and visitors in non-US islands in this area should closely watch their own weather services for warnings and advisories.
