Hurricane update - 6 March

Tropical cyclone GEORGE is a few hundred miles off the coast of Western Australia, and expected to grow into a major hurricane. Its westward path will veer southwest, which raises the spectre of the system affecting land along the Pilbara Coast, northeast of Exmouth. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology is monitoring the situation.

Tropical cyclone ODETTE died away over the weekend - only to pop up again this afternoon, GMT. It is on a collision course with the French island of New Caledonia, and nobody, apart from the Fijian and Australian hurricane bureaux, has realised that. The NC weather agency is unaware. Am anticipating a warning to be issued shortly.
