I'm afraid the news from the Glen Nevis / Ben Nevis area remains depressing.
In this news clip from the BBC website, it is reported that 50 memorials which were erected or left on the summit of Ben Nevis are to be removed. Some, which constitute vital navigational aids, will remain.
I have been on the summit of Britain's highest mountain, at 4,406 ft, and was amazed at the number of plaques. Some were to those who lost their life on the mountain, others to people who loved to come there. Whole cairns [stack of stones] are covered in at times very poignant tributes.
Any memorials removed will be stored for 5 years, for relatives or friends to reclaim them.

On the subject of the young girl who fell to her death at Steall in Glen Nevis on Tuesday, her name, picture and family tribute have been released on this webpage. Very poignant, very painful.

Very sad about the little girl. I hope they'll be able to just put up one memorial to all those who have died up on Ben Nevis. I do understand how people will be upset about theirs being removed. Jeannette xx
