Seems we're having a very bad week out here. Last night, there was a ferocious gale, gusting to 85 mph up at Eoropie. Stornoway being a more sheltered place was spared the worst. I would imagine that a few things will have taken off into the Atlantic up there. Ness, where Eoropie is located, is a very exposed and relatively flat area.
Another earthquake has struck Sumatra, Indonesia, which appears to be in the firing line over the last few years. The Boxing Day tsunami, which killed hundreds of thousands in 2004, was born off an earthquake measuring 9.1 on the Richter scale. Today's quake weighed in at 6.3, and was followed by an aftershock that was not much weaker. The deathtoll currently stands at 70. Damage is severe. A tsunami did not occur, as the epicentre of the quake was under land rather than sea.

That's awful!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's just because I'm more aware, but isn't the natural disaster scale on the rise?

We had horizontal and torrential rain with high winds last night too. I felt nice and snug indoors listening to it rattling on the window panes. I wouldn't have liked to be an animal out in that maelstrom last night.
ReplyDeleteMay God Bless those poor Indonesian folks. Its such a scary part of the world to live in. I will say a prayer for them. Jeanie
