A reminder to everyone that lives near the sea that next weekend will bring an exceptionally high tide. Here in Stornoway, we're looking at a low tide at 0.1m and a high tide of 5.5m. Yesterday's tidal difference by comparison was 2.2 and 3.4m.
On a more prosaic note, if you are into classical music, you may be familiar with a piece of music called La Cathedrale Engloutie by Debussy. The Submerged Cathedral once stood in a great city that was destroyed in a flood. Its bells could be heard tolling beneath the waves by fisherman out at night. But once a month, the great cathedral would emerge from the ocean and stand once more in its grandeur, in the light of the full moon - until dawn came. The spires would sink beneath the water, and only the sound of the mournful big bell could be heard from the deep...
