The Coastguard reports that a 60-year old walker has gone missing in the Isle of Rhum, south of Skye. He was last seen at 3pm this afternoon, and is thought to be in the area between Welshman's Rock and Dibidil, map pictured below. BBC Scotland adds that he may have fallen down a waterfall. The area is uninhabited and about 3 miles south of the nearest habitation.

Just after 5pm this afternoon, Stornoway
Coastguard received a call from a Scottish National Heritage warden
reporting that a walker had fallen over the edge of a waterfall South
East of Rum between Dibdal and Welshmans Rock
Stornoway
Coastguard Rescue Helicopter Mike Uniform was scrambled to the scene to
look for the missing man who is 60 years old and was last seen at
approximately 3pm.
Stornoway Coastguard also requested the assistance of the RNLI Lifeboat
from Mallaig, they are currently searching the shoreline.
Stornoway Coastguard Watch Manager, Dave Macbeth, said,
"Conditions are currently favourable with good visibility and occasional
light rain. We will continue to search for this man using out Search
and Rescue resources until all Search areas are covered"

ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope that poor man is found alive. It doesn't bear thinking, how awful it must be for him, if he is laying injured and awaiting help. My heart goes out to him and his family/friends, whoever he is. Keep us posted please?
