John is passing over the eastern side of Baja California, still a category 2 hurricane. There is considerable uncertainty over its future path, but although its low-level circulation will not reach the (southwestern) USA, its mid- and upper-level moisture may well do.

For such a minimal force tropical storm, Ernesto sure has affected a huge protion of the the Eastern US populaltion. We were lucky here in Savannah, Georgia. The storm passed us far enough offshore that we got very little rain and wind. The states to our north are not faring so well. This one still bears watching even after it turns extra tropical.

I think people often underestimate the power of rainfall to disrupt and destroy. Your storm entries and the resulting alerts are better than any I have tried!! Wish I'd known you last year about this time. ;o) - Barbara
