Close of day

No, I felt actually quite sick when the BBC News played a substantial section of the tape, recorded by Seung Cho before he went on his murderous, pre-planned rampage. They tried to justify it, saying it showed an insight into the contorted mind of that individual. The excuse sounded hollow. They knew they were morally wrong.

As you know, I am a strong supporter of the BBC, and have been for more than 20 years.  It is rare for me to criticise their journalistic stance, and in this matter they have been led by NBC. That corporation really should be slammed for releasing this into the open. I am totally unable to imagine what the families of the deceased must feel when seeing the ramblings of that sick mind, justifying the deaths of their loved ones.

BBC: rap across the wrist
NBC: boycot.

  1. I could not agree more Guido.  Showing it in America and over here was totally unjustified.  They gave him the "glory" that he wanted and how many others will now copy him thinking they will gain their place in history.  This should have been kept for the police and psychiatrists alone.  Those poor families, pity they cannot sue.

I watch NBC regularly and I must tell you NBC would only air about thirty seconds to a minute of that horrific tape by Seung Cho citing the same reasons you state in this post.   I remember that it was reported that the president of NBC called the FBI and released the tape and all evidence contained in the mailing to them.  Could it be that the FBI released a copy of the tape to all of the other media?  Once the tape was released to US law enforcement it became a part of the public domain.  I do hope you are wrong about NBC, but I will gravely weigh any further evidence you may have and then consider boycotting NBC if it is warranted.

  3. Oh how I agree with you. There really was no need for it. We all realised the man had mental health problems..did we need to see/hear any more. As well as all those relatives who are mouring the loss of their loved ones what must the  poor  troubled man's family be feeling. Perhaps they have been tryingn to get help for him for years to no avail.  love Sybilx

  5. Sam,
Thanks for filling me in on the finer details. My call for boycot springs for the complete lack of compassion for the bereaved. I am confident that legally speaking, NBC was within its right to publish. I support freedom for the press, but grant them very little leeway when people's privacy gets invaded.

  6. I stopped watching tv and reading about VT when they first started in with the sensationalism!! I refuse to be a part of this idiocy! As you said, I feel for the parents of those children having to be bombarded by every media outlet there is about this tradegy. Isn't it enough they lost their children without having to relive it day in and day out. (Hugs) Indigo

  7. Very upsetting to all in the US too, on their reports on TV.  We did not watch anything pertaining to him, but to the souls he destroyed, we watch all their tributes...take care,
