Broadband connection is back up, as promised. Dial-up was alright, but it's just a tad slow. About 15 times slower actually.
An earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, has struck northern Chile. The town of Alama, 750 miles north of the capital Santiago was rocked at 1240 GMT, some 4½ hours ago. Phone and power connections were off, but no reports of casualties just yet. Rumours of a tsunami have now been discounted by the Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii, as the warning for Hawaii was stood down at 1656 GMT.
