Geography

Geography is not everybody's cup of tea, but you'd expect an airline to have a beginner's grasp of it. Not so Flybe. In recent promotional material, they place Inverness firmly on the Firth of Forth, at the location of Edinburgh.

Just as well that their pilots know where to find the place.

It was also claimed in a recent newspaper column that when president George W. declared war on Saddam Hussein, many of his subjects didn't have a clue where eye-rack was. Worse than that, many people in this country point out their local DIY superstore as a major local landmark.

The spate of sat-nav mishaps continues, with non-celebrity Jade Goody driving blissfully up Oxford Street (a pedestrianised area) in London, telling police that her sat-nav told her to go there. Why is it that people can't read a map anymore? I mean, I'll never forget the American numbskull who drove into a river because her satnav told her to.

  1. Unbelieveable ! But true !    I find a lot of people don't know their directions, when I'm trying to explain how to get to a certain point.  Like go east on such & such a road..."which way is east?"  East is where the sun comes up and west is where it goes down.  And here in Tacoma...north is where Seattle is and south is the direction you go to get to Portland, Oregon.  Again, unbelieveable.  I guess some people are just two sandwiches short of a picnic.  Linda in sunny but cold Washington

  2. "Eye-rack".....I love it!!!!!  You must have overheard one of the conversations at our local store.  LOL, I'm still laughing at this!  I had not heard about the lady driving into the river...geesh, how stupid.  Amusing entry Guido.

  3. I am constantly amazed at how little people know when it comes to national geography, let along world geography.  One of Eler Beth's little friends didn't even know the name of the river we live near -- the Ohio River!!!  And she's lived here all her life.

  5. Well....you can't teach common sense.   You are either born with it or not.
