Fire!

The local Royal Mail sorting office in Stornoway was badly damaged by fire this morning. At around 10 am, the fire was discovered in the roofspace and is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault. The 15 staff in the building were evacuated and the blaze quickly brought under control. Two windows were broken, as were two roof skylights. Nobody was hurt. I went round Sandwick Road, where the sorting office is located, and the fire brigade were still at work. The staff were outside, and vehicles parked in carparks of an adjacent hotel.

Royal Mail have announced that they will do their best to salvage as much of the mail as possible, although it seems more than likely that our daily delivery will be very late today, if it comes at all.

  2. That's a post office?  Why not, sure, but it does look like a barn:)
