An 8-year old girl was airlifted to hospital this evening, after she slipped and fell in the Nevis Gorge, 7 miles southeast of Fort William in the Central Highlands. The path is known to be treacherous, with slippery rocks and awkward passages. A notice is posted to this effect at the car park at the end of the Glen Nevis road.
The path is popular with people wanting to walk the few miles to the 150 m / 500 ft high Steall waterfall, which is spectacular. I have visited this area a few times myself (see my Northern Trip-The Start journal, 29 October - 9 November 2004). Photo courtesy this webpage.
It's not really a place to tae a young child, I hope she'll be OK after the ordeal. Jeannette xx
