August kicks off with no fewer than 4 cyclones
Atlantic
Tropical Storm Chris is
located at 16.6N 59.2W or 175 miles east of Antigua. The system is
expected to move westnorthwest over the Leeward Islands. Maximum
windspeeds are 40 kts, with some strengthening anticipated. The exact
course of Chris is not wholly certain at this point, neither is the
course of its strength. In 5 days' time, Chris appears to be heading
for south Florida.
Public advisories have been issued for Antigua, Barbuda, St Kitts, Nevis, Saba, St Eustatius, St Barthelemy, St Martin/St Maarten, which are all subject to a Tropical Storm Warning. Tropical Storm Watches (click on link) are in force on Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands.
Western Pacific
Tropical Storm Prapiroon is making for Hainan in China and will continue on to northern Vietnam by weekend.
There are two tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific, but they do not threaten land.
