Hurricane update - 30 January

Tropical cyclone DORA is winding itself up into a hurricane in the Indian Ocean, some 470 miles north northeast of La Reunion and Mauritius. Winds at 0900 UTC today were 55 knots [65 mph] and these are expected to increase over the next few days to 90 knots, 105 mph. Current forecast would appear to steer Dora to the north of the aforementioned two islands, but a close eye needs to be kept on that situation. Tropical cyclones are notoriously unpredictable.

Queensland, Australia, is keeping a beady eye on a tropical weather system over the Cape York area. If that moves out into open waters, a tropical cyclone could well develop. The Northern Territories are watching another tropical low over Melville Island, which could also develop if repositioned over open water.

Yes, it's January - but the Cyclone Watch remains on alert.

  2. Goodness you seem to have bad weather over there. You would think it amusing for people to complain here as they do about the slightest rise in temperature or drop.  Phoenix people always act very confused about weather by how they dress.  You will see people with heavy jackets and even furs at the same time that you will see strapless dresses and nothing else.  People from back east think it is 'hot' in the winter while those who are used to it shiver and shake and wear big heavy winter fare at the slightest excuse.  They will probably start to suffocate and die before they get home of heat stroke.    Gerry
