Missing fishermen - June 2006

On 1 June 2006, the fishing boat The Brothers went down off Eilean Trodday, north of Skye, with the loss of its two crewmen.
An investigation by the Marine Accidents Investigation Branch has found that fatigue most likely played a role. The MAIB has issued advice to fishermen to take regular breaks. Apparently, both men had worked long hours, not had sufficient sleep and had taken some alcohol before departing Gairloch to fish for prawns in the Minch.

The MAIB has issued a flyer to fishermen to advise on procedures.

Following the accident, the body of one of the crew washed ashore in Gruinard Bay on the mainland; the body of the other man was never recovered.

  1. How very sad Guido.

These fisherman are very brave men who risk their lives and limbs in the course of their work. They didn't know about the danger until it was too late because of drinking before they set off...how very sad.  That would have been something they usually got away with.  Not this time it seems. Their boat looked so small!  I hope others take note from now on.  God Bless their souls.  Jeanie
