Comment spam

Both Jeannette (jeanno43) and Donna (nightmaremom) have experienced comment-related spam. I have spoken about this to the journalseditor about this, who said that no action is likely to be taken until the New Year.

  1. and we are not the only two Guido. Redpoppy was scammed for money.  I have been wondering where all the scamming has been coming from to my account from Building Societies, Banks etc.  Now I know.  We have to get it stopped somehow but it is going to take lots of journallers getting together. I have written in very strong terms to journals editor, I can assure you and in future I will be forwarding anything I get to him, he is going to have a very full mailbox.

  2. well Guido I suggest anyone getting this forward to journalseditor@aol.com.  I've had 8 people forward theirs to me asking if I knew what it was.  Since it was related to comment they left in my journal.  Then several emails asking.  I suggest we stand tall and firm on this and complain over and over until it is removed.

  4. I've had the same experience as Donna. They are doing this also in a very timely fashion, because they are using the comments alert feature, which was a very bad idea in the first place. I sometimes read entries about all the problems with AOL, usually I do not have much to complain about since it works ok for me, but these new features have no positive value for the average journaler. The idea they are reluctant to change them makes me feel as if they might be planning on using them for advertizing purposes on a grander  AOL level. Comment or entry specific marketing match up. I REALLY WOULD NOT CARE FOR THAT. ~Mary

  5. We need to remember to use the "BLOCK" feature that AOL has provided us with.  There will always be pushy, rude people intruding where they are not welcome. They've got a lot of nerve !!!!!!!     Linda in Washington

  6. I am in full agreement with Mary below.  Although I have yet to experience any spamming its something that would take away the pleasure of being a journaler if this got out of hand.  I for one would not give AOL my business any more if it was outed as a clandestine way of them making money through us being junk mailed.

  8. No one(journalers) needed this little feature-we just copy and pasted the comment that we wanted to comment back to someone in an e-mail-that worked fine.Makes you wonder whose idea this was and why........I can't imagine any 'normal' journaler asking for this. The things we do ask for get ignored......

Add my name to the list who recieved the SPAM from a comment I left in Donna's journal.  It was the same weight loss thing the others got.  I'll write the journals editor too!

  10. Guido, I got the same email as Jeannette. I deleted it and wondered why I got it but I soon realised. It looks as though quite a few of us have been hit.
