Those of you who have read my journal for more than a year will be familiar with this name. Molly was taken out of her school in Stornoway by her father and taken to Pakistan. It did not happen against the girl's will, I should add. Molly, of mixed Pakistani / British parentage, became the object of a tug-of-war between mother and father (Sajid Rana), who had separated. Louise, Molly's mother, still lives in a village just outside Stornoway with a new partner and a new baby. After a 6 months' court battle, Louise had to give up the fight, as the drain on her financial and emotional resources had become too great. An access arrangement was set up, by which Molly (now named Misbah Rana) would be able to communicate with her mother by phone and Internet. Louise had converted to Islam upon marrying Sajid, but had abandoned the religion after her estrangement. This had led to death threats against her, which meant that she felt unsafe to visit Pakistan in person.
This week, Louise Campbell announced that it was impossible for her to communicate with her daughter (now aged 13) by either phone or Internet, as the phone number had been changed and the PC in Pakistan was reportedly broken. If these communications are not re-established, then court proceedings are likely. It is the latest stage in a sorry saga.

Who would be the responsible party for the computer to be fixed or replaced-Louises'?That would be ridculous-they would just make sure it was broken again- - - -

I`m very saddened to hear this. I`d have hoped by now that Molly and her mother were getting on well by now. I hope her father ensures that Molly/Misbah will soon be back in touch with Louise.

It's just another reason for women in certain countries to be careful about who they marry and/or have children with. I have a friend here in WA that had a baby (never married) by a man from Iran. He is employed & lives in Los Angeles but still has many family members in Iran. The girl is now a senior in high school and will be 18 next June, but after her mom went to court & was awarded child support (when the girl was about 18 months old) she was constantly afraid, this man would have her kidnapped and taken to Iran, never to be seen again. All in order to get out of that monthly financial obligation. It's been done before, there was even a movie about it ("Not Without My Daughter") and it's a very sad situation for the child and the mother. My heart breaks for this mother, I can't imagine how frantic she must be. Linda in Washington state
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad story, it is such a shame when parents won't put the welfare of the child first and foremost. I feel bad for Louise ~ Molly is her daughter, she should be allowed to communicate with her.

How sad. Maybe when the girl gets older if she isn't totally brainwashed by then will seek her mother out.
