Sunday notes

Nice sunny day, with occasional cloud moving through. No complaints about the weather, contrary to southern England. There, severe gales lash the Channel coast and it's pouring with rain.

As I have been warning over the past few days, storm-force winds are now forecast for the coasts of northern California (Point St George to Point Arena) and Washington State (Cape Flattery to Cape Lookout), and a hurricane force wind warning is in force along the coast of Oregon (Cape Lookout to Point St George). Other advisories apply on the west coast, so please check the NWS website. Out at sea, waves can build to in excess of 40 feet / 12 metres. A particularly nasty low pressure area is moving up out of the Pacific. Judging by the weather charts, the ocean is in a really nasty mood, and the Atlantic isn't much better.

Russia is going to the polls today, and the United Russia party, headed by Vladimir Putin, looks set to sweep the board. It should be born in mind that although the western world may not like Putin much, he is very popular at home. Russians feel that he has restored their sense of national pride, and feelings of being a regional if not global power.

  1. You are right about the weather here Guido.  It is raining so hard you cannot see across the road and the wind is screaming around the house.  Horrible.  Poor Mike has to take the dogs out in it.

  2. We had an icy rain storm last night. The front steps are very slick.I may get a picture of them once it's daylight. Had to jump off into the flowerbed to take Nala out this morning.
