Central and Highland Scotland is affected by serious flooding today. Reports from the upper Forth Valley, to the east of Stirling, mentions extensive flooding, with lifestock swept away in the raging torrents. Yesterday, the village of Milnathort was overwhelmed by water, in spite of a new flood prevention scheme that had only been in place for 4 months.
The main railway line from Glasgow to the West Highlands is closed tonight. The Inverness to Perth line, through the central Highlands, is also still disrupted following extensive flooding at Kingussie. Yesterday, the A82 Fort William to Inverness road was closed due to a landslip 16 miles north of the Fort.
More rain is forecast for the next few days, although a respite is expected over the weekend. Meanwhile, high winds continue to cause disruption on the ferries. Our ferry was 1½ hours late sailing for Ullapool at 'lunchtime', although it was more like 3pm.
