Afternoon notes

Beautiful afternoon in the island today. Went out for an amble round the Castle Grounds, see above pictures for a photolog. Managed to lay my hands on a CD containing a song about the Iolaire Disaster of 1919, when 205 men of the island lost their lives at a stroke on New Year's Morning. Heartrending. The final line - "we only ask for their bodies to be returned" - is all the more poignant, as 60 bodies were never recovered.

The garden furniture has come in useful for the second time this summer. It cannot be used that often, because either it is too windy, cold or wet. If it isn't any of those three, we're bound to get eaten alive by the midges. Not so this afternoon.

  1. Lews Castle looks like something from a storybook to me. Who lives there?

  3. Cuddy Park is so charming yet vast.  All of Stornaway is "picture" perfect, thanks for sharing once again.  I remember reading in history about the Iolaire shipwreck, over 200 servicemen drowned.  I don't recall if it was ever explained what caused it.  God bless "the men who go down to the sea in ships".  CATHY

  4. Lovely weather today for you Guido.  Super castle too!
Methinks you have bought yourself a new camera....yes?   Your close-up of the white tailed bumblebee was superb!  I could see right through its little wing.  And the dandelion seed head was smashing too.    I am envious of your ability.

Thanks for the picture show.  I enjoyed it.
