172 mph

That was the speed at which an Oxfordshire motorist was driving along the A420 road near the village of Kingston Bagpuize. That makes 277 kph in metric money. Even Hurricane Dean's winds didn't manage to blow that hard. The man in question was caught in a speedtrap and is due to be sentenced next month. For reference, this means that he was travelling at a rate of 77 metres (or 260 feet) per second. If you bear in mind that it takes the human body 1 second between registering an event and effecting a motoric response, you can well imagine that you're effectively not in control of your vehicle.

  3. I hope they lock him up and throw away the keys!  What mayhem he could have caused on the motorway.  What families lives he could have ruined by his selfish act.
    Nutter!  Say no more!
