Thursday notes

Fog disappeared after sunset last night, and it remains clear this morning. Cloudy, but with some brightness and a relatively mild 16C.

Found a map of 1875, showing an area for deerstalking and fishing in the island, which is used for that same purpose today, 132 years later. It shows that little has changed, apart from the size of the villages, the track of the roads and a bridge or two. I could conceivably use that map for walking in the centre of the island, if it wasn't for the small scale.

Hurricane Dean is no more - the National Hurricane Center issued its final (40th) advisory at 0300 GMT this morning. There is an outside chance that its remnant could regenerate in the Eastern Pacific in the next day or so. No other cyclones look set to form in the near future.

  1. That's an interesting find Guido.  Will it not scan and then enlarge?
Take no notice of me....I always jump in with two feet first...you have rpobably thought of that already....duh!

I love coming across antiquarian artefacts.  Its interesting reading about how life was lived and seen in those previous centuries.

  3. How cool that you found that old map! Where did you find it? Did Mrs B have it hiding in the attic somewhere?

  4. Oh, that map is fascinating.  Scannable (if not too private of info on it)?  I'm sure there's a story there.

I do find severe weather fascinating as well, even if I'm thankful that my friend is fine, and my coworker who was cruising the Caribbean these past 2 weeks, is also fine.
