Saturday evening notes

Hurricanes are now frontpage news on the TV news - and no wonder. Jamaica is in the firing-line for a direct hit by hurricane Dean, which will lash it with winds up to 150 mph.

A conference of Southern African nations will not be putting any pressure on Robert Mugabe - although his country is in economic meltdown with inflation running at 5,000%. What were to happen if his nation had oil, eh? But I've made my position crystal clear.

Today was a very non-summery day - the clouds are only now beginning to break. More than an hour after sunset.

  1. The situation in Zimbabwe leaves one speechless. The continent of Africa has a long tradition of staying silent on the attrocities carried out in neighbouring countries; nothing seems to change and many counties in the continent continue to rely on external support. Baffling.

  2. The hurricane sounds really bad, my friend has just flown to Florida, I'm hoping he won't be near the path when it hits the US. Jeannette xx
