Sunday notes

Cool but fairly sunny Sunday, with a bit of a breeze. Nothing remarkable, certainly not reminiscent of high summer. The only reminders of that are across in the Caribbean with the hurricane season kicking off with a bang. Jamaica could well be spared a direct hit from hurricane Dean - this storm will likely pass to the south of the island on its way to the Cayman Islands and the Yucatan Peninsula. It remains a category 4 hurricane, but could become cat 5 before landfall in Mexico. Read eye-witness accounts here.

I was stunned by the sight of the burned out hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, of which nothing was left but the walls. One person died, two are still missing.
