Hurricane Dean is currently passing through the Lesser Antilles - at 4 AM EDT, it was between St Lucia and Martinique. Winds were reported at 60 mph, although the maximum sustained winds near the centre were at 100 mph. Dean will continue to strengthen as it tracks west towards the Yucatan Peninsula - its impact on Jamaica and the Cayman Islands yet to be assessed. Expect Dean in the Gulf of Mexico, east of Texas early next week. If the storm does not pass over land across the Yucatan, it will be a stronger storm than if it does.
Sepat is making for Taiwan, with winds of 125 mph. The island nation will be dealt a severe blow by this category 4 typhoon.

Guido, I SHOULD know this, but haven't the moment to look it up -- are the category levels for hurricanes the same as the category levels for typhoons? I've been assuming so, and hence, thinking BIG TIME YIKES for the potential of Sepat at level 4. Thanks.
ReplyDeletea category 4. It just breaks my heart....I know the devastation it brings...
