Hurricane Flossie is about, some 1,400 miles east of Hawaii. The storm carries winds of 65 to 70 knots (75 to 80 mph) and is moving west to westnorthwest at 12 knots (14 mph). It is expected to weaken after tomorrow, once it crosses the 140th degree longitude. This is the demarcation of the Central Pacific basin. Once Flossie reaches the longitude of Hawaii (August 14th), it is expected to be a tropical storm with winds near the centre of 55 knots, 63 mph. I hasten to add that the current forecast shows the storm some 200 miles south of the Big Island by then.
Anyone concerned about Flossie should consult the bulletins issued by the NHC Miami and after tomorrow the CPHC Honolulu.
