A farm on the Romney Marsh in East Kent is presently under suspicion for an outbreak of foot and mouth. Confirmation is awaited, but it is worth noting that this farm lies 60 miles east of the initial outbreak near Guildford in Surrey. I hope the test results come back negative, but it would be very worrying. The Romney Marsh lies alongside the English Channel, and the virus would find the 25 miles of water separating it from France no barrier at all. It is also only a dozen miles from the Channel Tunnel and the ferry terminal at Dover.

This is cause for worry Guido...I don't like the sound of this at all!

Fingers crossed Guido, I hope we do not see those awful scenes of burning cattle again on the scale we did before. Like you said it is very worrying it is so close to the Channel.
ReplyDeleteHeard about the initial outbreak last week on BBC World News, can't recall if it was bovine, porcine, what, but I thought they isolated that particular region, no? Sorry to hear it may not have been contained. Worrisome! CATHY
