My attention was drawn by Jeannette (jeanno43) to a computer virus that circulates in emails, which are headed "You've received a postcard from a family member", or from a neighbour, or from a mate. The virus deletes sector zero, which contains data, critical to the running of the computer. It causes the computer to stall, prompting the user to reboot, which the virus uses to delete sector 0. Verified through snopes.

I`ve had a couple of these you`ve got card types! I`ve also been getting lot`s of e mails saying I`ve won the lottery or I`ve been left money in a will, from places like China etc, How do they get your e mail address and how do you stop them??

Yes, I got one of these a while back and posted the warning as well. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for passing it on Guido. I have had at least thirty of these things. Thankfully I have never opened them. For a start I do not have workmates and none of my friends would send me a card from a mate.

Thanks!! I recvd one awhile back and deleted it.... the good ones will usually have the name of the person sending it to you, so that you can verify FIRST that they've actually sent it to you!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Joann
Yes I did receive one like that! it does not seem to have affected me, I got stuck and had to restart my computer, did a spy check and so on, and it's ok. It was a nasty email, was not it...ah! from your family!

Thanks for the heads up Guido.

I've always gotten things I NEVER open for lack of trust in the addy. Better to keep virus-free and maybe slight a "mate" than catch one out of curiosity as to who sent you a postcard. Thanks G. xo CATHY
