Filthy weather today, frequent and heavy rain, blown along on a cold southerly wind. Just nipped up to the shop for the papers, but I'm not tempted to go out again today.
On Wednesday, it will be 50 years ago that an aircraft, carrying the Manchester United team of the day, crashed at
Munich airport. 23 players were killed. I have recently said that I
haven't got a lot of time for football players, but if anything respect
them for conviction. At a sad time like this, you can only respect
those that did not make it out of the aircraft alive. The link carries
the story of the wife of one of the players, who had to endure an
agonising wait for news.
Central Africa is once more the scene of fighting, this time in the republic of Chad. This is located south of Libya. Rebels have fought intense battles with government troops in the capital, N'Djamena. Chad's eastern neighbour Sudan is accused of fomenting trouble, in part over the Darfur region, which stretches along the two countries mutual border. Chad has previously seen hostilities with northern neighbour Libya over a disputed border - centered on lucrative phosphate mines. And once again, it's the civilians that suffer.

That is a very good article, I can't imagine what they went through. Sad.
