Bubbles

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has stated that he thinks that Muslims in the UK should be subjected to Islamic (Sharia) laws in some instances. Dr Williams is known for making fantastic speeches, that nobody recollects afterwards - hence the heading to my post.

Muslims, speaking on BBC News, have said they would not be happy with that prospect. In all fairness, Sharia laws are not just about corporeal and capital punishment - it also provides rules for marital and other civic disputes.

In my opinion, the UK has an extensive set of laws to deal with virtually every contingency in life. There is no necessity for another set of laws, only for one group in society. It would be a recipe for disaster, leading to segregation and alienation in society.

We could do worse than just let this Archbishop's bubble burst.

  6. I would suspect it'd be up to the Muslim's in the UK, whomever is the leading authority there who is Muslim, to raise the issue and propose it, not a leader in a non-Muslim religion.  Ah, well.  Sounds unlikely, anyway.

  7. The Archbishop is definitely 'not of our world'.
How could he not know the repercussions of his words on the British people.
He must think we have 'mugs' written over our foreheads.
It's about time he concentrated on getting bottoms on  pews instead of encouraging a debate on changing our laws to include Sheria laws.

We need to encourage our young to want to go to church more. Let him throw his whole weight into that debate instead.
Our laws have worked perfectly fine for everyone so far and they are part of 'our' civilisation.
If we are not careful we will become a diluted nation void of any sensible laws at all.
If anything needs changing then its him from his position.
He doesn't seem to be in touch with 'our' world at all!
The Archbishop of York is to my mind a better advocate for our llegal aws and christianity.

  8. I suspect Williams' comment precedes the boiling under biggie namely immigration, illegal and otherwise. In a sense, he's right in that sharia exists already in the finance sector and has done for ~ 5 years. So the next step would be civil/family matters. Hmph.
I don't see UK law being applied to ex pats in Europe/Australia/Asia...and certainly not because of their faith. What IS it about Islamism that's making our UK Govt bend over backwards to accomodate it? It should be doing that for us. Entirely annoying. I can't find enough message boards to complain on.
