Saturday notes

Afternoon all from a very white Stornoway. The town is blanketed under 4 inches of snow, which makes for very pretty pictures. Needless to say I have already taken 110 today. The snow is not melting, because current temperature is marginally below freezing. Overnight low reached -7C (19F), a temperature not often experienced here. Remember, we're at sealevel, right next to the sea. The rainfall / snowfall radar shows a band of precipitation to our west and south, which will slowly move in. A band of dark clouds is visible on the southern horizon. The webcam shows this very handsomely, as well as the snowcover. There is a forecast for milder weather to move in from the Atlantic later today.

A trawler, the Spinningdale, is stuck fast on rocks at St Kilda. There are concerns it could carry rats, which, if they get ashore, would decimate the ground-nesting bird population. St Kilda has mice, but no rats. Measures are taken to check for rat predation.

  1. It is still bitterly cold here at home on the East Coast Of Yorkshire.,though we have had sunshine today, which has thawed the snow,a little  thank goodness.Oh dear the rat threat sounds awful.I was just reading a topic this week about a town near back home where I used to live, who have developed an epidemic of them.Good grief I couldn't live around them things. I would be a wreck myself. They are horrible dirty creatures.I do hope they don't get ashore from this poor ship in trouble. Thanks for sharing the film and everything .Take Care God Bless Kath astoriasand http://journals.aol.co.uk/astoriasand/MYSIMPLERHYMES

  2. It`s freezing here too Guido though we didn`t get the terrible weather that was forecast yesterday. We waited and waited for it to come but all we got was a nice sunny day followed by more of the same today. :o)
