Autumn afternoon

On the penultimate day of September, it was not too warm, but quite sunny. Visibility is fantastic, can see the Applecross Forest 60 miles away. By the way, a forest in Scotland means that there are mountains. Very few trees in this neck of the woods. The Applecross Forest rises to over 2,000 feet. No wind either, so I'm scratching a few midge bites. Sunset will be in about 40 minutes.

I am a bit surprised that since autumn started 6 days ago, everybody seems to be going bananas over Halloween. One brave soul even mentioned the X-word. Christmas. Erm, as I said, it's September 29th. Never mind.

Following my rant over daft comments, I was greeted this morning by a comment-to-be-moderated on the TC blog by some idiot wanting to sell me watches. His comment duly got rejected, and although I normally only get comments from a fellow hurricane watcher in Australia (Petar, he used to write the Syrophenikon blog on here), I've now restricted those that can comment to Blogger users.

  1. Guido....I am one of those people who can't wait for Halloween...I love handing out candies to the little ones all dressed up in their costumes. Maybe it's because of my disabilites in standing very long or walking much...I can sit on the front porch and the excitement comes to me...LOL. I love Autumn...the cool crisp air...with the heat and humidity finally all gone. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day..........June:)

  2. Do you mean to say, you're not ready for Christmas?  Why Guido !  Just kidding...I'm nearly ready but that's the way I operate.  Have to think "Christmas" all year...I don't like to rush around the middle of December getting everything together.  I've already figured out my menu for Christmas dinner.  LOL.   Halloween is one event I don't particilate in.  That night I turn out all the lights and head for the back of the house, thankfully I have a TV & phone in my bedroom.  They are telling us, that the rain will start this afternoon and continue thru the week. I have taken a "wait & see" attitude.   Linda in Washington state http://journals.aol.com/lsfp1960/LindasWorld/

  3. I actually DID mention Christmas in my journal last week Guido. The reason being is the same as Linda. I want it all out of the way so I can forget about it until much nearer the time. I hate crowds and the commercialism of it all. This year I`ll be spending much less than other years and it`ll still be a wonderful occasion.

    Love Sandra xxxx

  4. All the stores here have Christmas decor and fake trees up already.  They just by passed Thanksgiving and Halloween!  Oh, sure, there are Halloween/Thanksgiving decor, but it's delegated to a pitiful single aisle.  ::shakes head::  It's not even remotely cool here in Texas, so the mood just isn't hitting me yet....

  5. Christmas?   Bah Humbug!  That's what I felt like saying two weeks ago when we visited our local large garden centre.
They had already closed off aisles and had begun to set out all the Christmas Decorations and gifts.  I couldn't believe it as we had not long moved into September.
I love Christmas time with family gathering around but I hate the commercialism that you see everywhere at this time of the year until Christmas Eve.

Midgie bites still Guido?  I thougt it was freezing up there?
Stick some tcp on them and stop scratching....Lol!
