Sunday notes

The overnight gale has moved away, leaving us with a windy and bright afternoon. Occasional showers do threaten. Later this afternoon, we'll be viewing the wild Atlantic near the Butt of Lewis OR the Tiumpan Head lighthouse.

I have bad news on the hurricane front: the forecasters say that three tropical cyclones could form over the next few days. The first will pop up over the northwestern Caribbean and southern Gulf of Mexico later today - I'll post an update at the end of the day. Another two are in the pipeline as they cross the Atlantic from Africa during this week.

The bleak withdrawal of a tropical cyclone formation alert for the Bay of Bengal masks the human tragedy that the storm system has left behind. Although it did not turn into a tropical cyclone, the monsoon depression concerned still blew into a gale in which 100 fishermen are feared drowned after at least a dozen boats were seen overturned. Conditions are still so severe that a rescue mission cannot be mounted. The storm system itself has moved ashore.  More here.

  2. How very distressing Guido.  More fishermen lost at sea due to these storms. And I was just muttering under my breath about the rain we had this morning and the light wind flurries that have been passing through our garden too.  I don't know the half of it!
God Bless the families of the men who have lost their lives.
    Enjoy your outing..

  3. How dreadful for those poor fishermen!  Goes to show a storm doesn't have to be a hurricane to wreck havoc.  -  Barbara

  4. How awful for those souls out in their boats.  They may not of even had time to seek cover.  Linda in Washington state
