Sunday notes

Sunny morning, which started windless but a breeze has now picked up. The basin, across the road, was like a perfect mirror. Not any more. Temperatures have risen to 13C from an overnight low of 2C.

Not much to report on the hurricane front, with only a typhoon threatening Hainan Island and Vietnam. Two earthquakes occurred in the Pacific, one near Guam and the other off New Zealand. Neither resulted in damage or casualties.

A UN envoy has spoken to the Burmese opposition figure Aung San Suu Kyi, much to my surprise. Same envoy also spoke to the country's military leaders.

  2. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is the rightful heir to her country's presidency.  It's a shame that over many years she has been under house arrest by this Junta. She will prevail or someone like her hopefully will...I have no doubt of that.  Its only when?
China and India have such a big stake in who governs and they would rather it was not she.  Hence the confidence of the military leaders at present.  I hope the UN can persuade them otherwise, but fuel, in the way of gas, is worth more to them than the people of Burma.
China had no compunction when invading Tibet and de-foresting their native woods and using it for their own uses back home.  Testing out neuclear explosions, polluting large tracts of lakes and land, sterilising the Tibetan women of childbearing age, whilst educating the children already born only in Chinese so that they would forget their native language so that the Chinese would become the natural heirs to Tibet through their own progeny.
This way they hope to anihilate the race over time and enjoy more land for their billions to expand onto.  Billions is a hard number to see in your minds eye so I'm sure China wont worry too much about the small nation of Burma, in their quest to compete in the modern worlds economy.
I will be surprised if they intercede.  Very surprised but very happy too!

    I'm off my soapbox now....sorry!

  3. It's raining and about 50 degrees. Time to make a fire in the woodstove or turn up the furnace.  They are forecasting wind & rain for the next few days.  Tuesday it's supposed to get up to 60 degrees but that will also be a rainy day.  I'll have to make a new pot of soup on my new cook top.  Have a great Sunday afternoon & evening.  Linda in gloomy Washington state
