World Alzheimers Day

Friday 21 September is World Alzheimers Day, a day dedicated to finding a cure for this devastating illness. My attention was drawn to this by Mary Louise who writes a blog about her sister's inexorable decline as a result of Pick's Disease. This bears a close resemblance to Alzheimer's. In the USA, ActionALZ hosts the Day on this link, with the stated aim of raising $1 million. In the UK the day is hosted on Alzheimers International.

  1. My late MIL had a similar illness and Jim and his family were well supported by the Alzheimers Association. They certainly deserve all the help they can in the fight against this most cruel of diseases.

  2. I watched a neighbour disappear becasue of this dreadful disease!  Her husband was almost driven out of his mind watching her disappear too.  He had to lock her indoors towards the end as she would escape and 'go walk abouts'.  They found her walking along the road on Dunmail Raise on her way to Keswick.  Many miles from her home.  She was exhausted but determined in her mind to walk home to Scotland. This is such a cruel affliction as it takes parts of your mind at a time and there's no saying which parts go first.  Carers and patients need more help and research into this cruel affliction.
