Monday notes

Bright and sunny morning but I see some warning signs for a shower later in the day. It was very windy last night, and the northerly wind remains strong. Temperatures only 9C / 48F at the moment and not expected to rise much above 11C.

Five people have lost their lives in a two-vehicle crash on the M4 motorway in South Wales, near Newport. Three young men were in one vehicle, and a couple died in another. There appears to have been some police involvement, so the independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.

After the devastating hotel fire in Newquay a few weeks ago, a fire in a hotel in Blackpool, northern England, has claimed one life. The fire started in one hotel and spread to the premises nextdoors.

Customers of the Northern Rock bank continue to queue outside branches to withdraw their savings. Over the weekend, 2 billion pounds were taken out by panicking savers. Although the bank has said that it is safe, customers do not agree.

  2. Fire is always a worry when buildings are attached to each other.  Very sad to read about the crashes...I hope the police were not chasing them?
That too is always a worry.  I often wonder if they didn't chase them in this way what would be the outcome..Yes they would get away but at least it lessens the risk of innocent drivers becoming involved.
Anyway..grab the good weather while you can.  I will be off out in the rain soon.

  3. Wow lots of bad news today. Weird about that bank. I haven't heard of anything like that except in history books in the Great Depression. I hope that bank really is ok.
