Wednesday notes

It would appear that Shanghai has missed the very worst of Typhoon Wipha, although inches and inches of rain will still cause problems. The storm is blowing itself out, or should I say raining itself out, over the Chinese interior. Wipha is a girl's name in Thai.

Here in the islands, it's a bright morning with occasional sunshine but not too warm - only 12C. Forecast is downhill: we're due rain and wind later in the day. Later in the autumn, Cromwell Street (the main shopping mall in Stornoway) is going to be resurfaced, and the Pyramid (a meeting point in the town centre) demolished to make way for a new creation. Things will not disrupt Christmas festivities - I try not to think they mean the pre-Christmas shopping rush.

I also try not to smirk at the news that Inverness is supposed to be carfree today. Drivers are encouraged to leave their cars at the city gates and cycle or walk into the centre to work or shop. Like they will.

Police investigating the case of the abandoned child in Australia have located a woman's body in the boot of a car, parked outside the family's home in Auckland, New Zealand. They will not confirm whether it is that of the child's mother - a post-mortem is yet to be held.

  1. Another family tragedy Guido...poor woman and poor child she has left behind. I was hoping this would not be the case but it looks as though it might be?

We have sunshine and the rain has stopped at last!

  2. Interesting Thai name.  Thank goodness it's now just rain.  Sorry people will drive anyway in Inverness, my brother loved ALL of Scotland when he visited.  Now another mother-child tragedy.  The truth will out I've no doubt.  CATHY
