Missing at Camusfearna

A 74-year old lady is missing near Glenelg, just across from the Isle of Skye, in the area where the late Gavin Maxwell had a house in the 1950s and 1960s. In his books "Ring of Bright Water", he called it Camusfearna. In real life, the area is named Sandaig.

Yesterday evening, this lady, apparently fit and well, went missing with her collie dog whilst walking downstream along the Sandaig burn, a few miles south of Glenelg. She was with a friend when they became separated. A search was carried on until 2 am this morning, and was resumed at first light, at 7 am. Weather conditions are deteriorating and a gale is expected this afternoon. Mallaig Lifeboat has been standing by all night, and the Kyle Lifeboat will take over this morning.

For reference: Kyle is off the above map, just north of Kyleakin. Mallaig is 15 miles to the south.

  1. I fear for this poor lady.  I hope they find her soon. How she and her friend got seperated is a puzzle?

  4. I'm glad the lady was eventually found safe and well Guido. Camusfearna brings back memories of school! I remember Ring of Bright Water and Mij the otter, had to study it for 'O' level GCE's back in the 60's! It was one of my favourite books. Have a good weekend!
